Sweating in the Kitchen?

Thursday 12th June 2014

SOPHIE THOMPOSON, like a duck to water, had a great start in
the Celebrity MasterChef kitchen on Tuesday night, providing an easy answer to
Greg Wallace’s question: “you can sing, you can dance, but can you cook?” This
first episode of Celebrity MasterChef saw countless huffs, many hand-on-hip
moments and it is fair to say that in the face of the ominous Mystery Box, the
sweat was dripping before a knife was even lifted. However, despite all of
Sophie’s nervous mutterings she excelled in this challenge, and even more so
when charged with the responsibility of cooking an elaborate monkfish dish under
the watchful eye of head chef Anthony Garlando at the famed Aqua Shard
restaurant.

Though it became progressively clear that Sophie’s hallmark
is a messy station – John Torode playfully complaining he has seen ‘pigs that
work cleaner’ – her excitement and determination to do well is palpable. We
here at Another Tongue certainly felt that after her first experience in the Celebrity
MasterChef kitchen, Sophie could – as she hoped – “hold her wooden spoon high”.

If you missed out on watching the celebrities sweat in their
first challenge, make sure to catch it on BBC iPlayer. Episode two is also airing
tonight at 8pm on BBC One so make sure to catch it!
